Being one of the
main cities of Isfahan province, Kashan is a
beautiful oasis town along the western edge of
desert, “dashte kavir”. With an altitude of 1600,
Kashan located about 240 km to the south of Tehran,

and counted as one
of the most important archaic cities of Iran.
Archeological discoveries in the Sialk Hills which
lie in vicinity of Kashan reveal that this region
was one of the primary centers of civilization in
the pre-historic ages which is over 7000 years old.
However it was an important city in pre Islamic
period, but the most flourishing time of the city
was during the reign of King Abbas I of Safavid
dynasty. It was his favorite town and beautified it,
and asked to be buried here in the mausoleum of his
13 century ancestor.
Majority of historians and travelers to the town
have called it a gate to the world of civilization.
Kashan flourished mainly during the Seljuk and
Safavid periods. Sample of art works created by
Kashani artisans can be seen in the famous museums
of the world.
In addition to the world famous carpets, Kashan is
also well known for its silk, glazed tile called
Kashi and Rose water.
In addition to many historical Monuments, such as
Mosques, bazaar, old houses, there are many
beautiful ancient villages close to Kashan such as
Abyaneh and Niyasar are worth visit. |
